CPF Supports Phetchaburi and Nakhon Pathom in Addressing Blackchin Tilapia

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) continues its support of the Department of Fisheries in tackling the Blackchin Tilapia problem in natural water resources across various provinces where this invasive species has been found. Recently, the company partnered with the Phetchaburi Provincial Fisheries Office to organize a Community Fishing Event targeting Blackchin Tilapia in the E-aed Canal, Laem Phak Bia Sub-district. The event resulted in the capture of approximately 400 kg of Blackchin Tilapia and nearly 200 kg of Mullet, indicating that the canal maintains a balanced ecosystem.

Mr. Suwat Wongsuwan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, presided over the event, accompanied by Mr. Somboon Thanyaphon, Inspector of the Department of Fisheries, and Acting Sub Lt. Thiraphon Choknumchai, District Chief of Ban Laem. Over 150 participants, including government officials, local administrative organizations, fishermen, community leaders, and private sector representatives, collaborated in the fishing efforts. CPF provided support in the form of snacks, energy drinks, and drinking water for the participants.

Mr. Prachuab Chiangyi, Phetchaburi Provincial Fishery Officer, explained that the event was organized in line with the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives' policy to urgently address the Blackchin Tilapia issue. The 419 kilograms of Blackchin Tilapia caught will be transferred to the Phetchaburi Land Development Station for bio-fermented water production. Additionally, 193 kilograms of mullet were caught, demonstrating the area's ability to support native species.

"Today's mullet catch indicates the abundance of natural water sources and local aquatic life. The Blackchin Tilapia will be used for bio-fermented water production, while the mullet will be shared with the public and event participants," Mr. Chiangyi added.

Mr. Adit Krisanawong, Head of Public Private Relations at CPF, stated that the company's support extends beyond this event. CPF is engaged in five collaborative projects with various agencies, including:

  • Supporting the purchase of Blackchin Tilapia for fishmeal production
  • Releasing predator fish into water sources
  • Supporting government and community fishing activities
  • Collaborating with educational institutions to develop food products from Blackchin Tilapia
  • Conducting research with experts on long-term population control solutions
  • Mr. Adit emphasized that CPF continues to work closely with the Department of Fisheries to monitor and support efforts to manage Blackchin Tilapia in natural water sources.
