Enchanting Khao Lak with Art and Community Engagement
Renowned Thai graffiti artist Alex Face brought his inspirational "WAVE PERIOD: KHAO LAK POP-UP" to Devasom Khao Lak's most prestigious penthouse for a special two-day exhibition. The "SKY VIEW AT SKY VILLA" showcase, held from July 21-22, 2024, presented Alex Face's latest artistic creations and offered a glimpse into his creative process.
This exclusive event was the culmination of the larger "WAVE PERIOD: KHAO LAK POP-UP" project, which ran from July 20-28, 2024, across various venues in Khao Lak. The exhibition, set in Devasom's luxurious 430 sq.m. Sky Villa, featured an enchanting series of small paintings by Alex Face, inspired by the French Impressionist concept of plein air.
Created on-site in Khao Lak, these works reflected Alex Face's profound connection to nature and the vibrant local communities, influenced by his engagement with surfing. Visitors to the exhibition also enjoyed behind-the-scenes footage, an interview documentary, and breathtaking sunset scenes of the local community, curated by EXOTIC QUIXOTIC.
Alex Face's journey to Khao Lak is a story of artistic inspiration and community connection. In 2021, he and his family relocated to Phang Nga, finding a second home in the small seaside town of Khao Lak. His artworks from this period onward embody his profound connection to nature and the vibrant local communities, nurtured through his engagement with surfing. All new paintings in 'WAVE PERIOD : KHAO LAK POP-UP,' whether on surfboard or canvas, were created onsite in Khao Lak primarily along Memories Beach, Pakarang Cape and Nang Thong Beach, popular surfing spots. These locales may undergo changes or vanish by the next high season. However, Alex Face's dedication to this holistic presentation is an homage to the human relationship with uncertainty.
The "SKY VIEW AT SKY VILLA" exhibition not only showcased Alex Face's artistic talent but also brought together the community as well as highlighted the beauty of Khao Lak and the unique setting of Devasom's Sky Villa, making it a memorable event for art enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
