In a collaborative effort with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and the Ban Hin Kob fishing community in Pathio District, Chumphon Province, Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CP Foods) has made a significant contribution to marine ecosystem conservation in the Gulf of Thailand.
The initiative, organized by CP Foods' employee clubs including Social Contribution Club and Volunteer Tourism Club, involved the release of 20 million blue crab larvae, the planting of 1,000 mangrove trees, and a comprehensive coastal cleanup. These combined efforts aimed to safeguard the delicate marine environment and ensure food security for the Chumphon residents.
The event took place at the "Learning Center for Breeding and Nursing Blue Crab Larvae" in Ban Hin Kop, a model fishing community that has established a "Community Blue Crab Bank" since 2015. This center plays a vital role in restoring marine resources and supporting the sustainability of local fishing activities.
During the event, CP Foods employees actively participated in hands-on conservation work. They collected 98 kilograms of coastal waste, contributing to the cleanup of the beaches, and planted 1,000 mangrove trees to enhance the green spaces and strengthen the Gulf of Thailand's ecosystem.
Wilairat Sukkham, a CP Foods employee, expressed her joy in contributing to the community and learning about local wisdom in coastal conservation, particularly the reliance on blue crab conservation and mangrove planting.
Umaporn Prasomphon, from CP Foods' Pathiu Farm, highlighted the significance of this activity in bringing together employees from different offices to support both the environment and local communities. Mangroves are crucial to the Gulf of Thailand's ecosystem, serving as nurseries for young aquatic species and helping to maintain a stable food source for the community.
This collaborative initiative demonstrates CP Foods' commitment to environmental stewardship and its dedication to creating shared value for the local ecosystem, food security, and the livelihoods of communities surrounding the company's premises.
