On August 28, 2024, Mr. Sebastien Frederic Salmon, Senior Vice President, Head of Franchised Hotel Operations, and Ms. Rungthip Phenphan, Vice President, Head of Sustainability Development and Corporate Communication, The Erawan Group Public Company Limited (SET: ERW or "ERAWAN"), along with Mr. Nipon Lerttassanee, Executive Vice President, Project Management, Engineering and Logistics Business, Refinery and Oil Trading Business Group, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, and member of the Executive Committee of BSGF Company Limited ("BSGF"), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the management of used cooking oil. This "Fry to Fly" initiative aims to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from used cooking oil collected from ERAWAN's properties and supply continuously to BSGF. On this occasion, Mr. Tanawat Linjongsubongkot, Chairman of Thanachok Group, Ms. Sutida Utthapan, Assistant Director-General of the Department of Health and Director of the Food and Water Sanitation Bureau, along with representatives from hotels, resorts, and businesses under ERAWAN, witnessed the MOU signing and award ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok hotel.
Under this collaboration, ERAWAN will encourage hotels, resorts, and businesses under its management to sell used cooking oil to BSGF through the "Fry to Fly" initiative to be converted into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This low-carbon aviation fuel can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 80% compared to current aviation fuels, aligning with sustainability management goals and helping to mitigate the impact of climate change.
This partnership not only reduces carbon emissions into the atmosphere but also promotes systematic management of used cooking oil, preventing it from being reused or improperly disposed of, which benefits both consumer health and the environment. During the same event, Ms. Sutida Utthapan, Assistant Director-General of the Department of Health and Director of the Food and Water Sanitation Bureau, awarded the "No Refry" certificate to the hotels involved in this MOU.
This initiative reflects ERAWAN's commitment to providing international-standard hotel services while also being socially and environmentally responsible, contributing to the sustainable development of the tourism industry.
