First sipped in the early 1920s in France and popularised as an American-styled gin cocktail with rich Italian roots, the quintessential Negroni has existed in some form or another for more than a century. "As this much-loved cocktail courses through its centennial decade, the mixology world celebrates its place in the cocktail pantheon with another annual Negroni Week in September 2024," shares Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui Bar Manager Thom Greets.
Kick-starting on September 16 and continuing until the 22nd, bartenders around the world add their own twist or two to demonstrate their skills in creating the finest Negroni-inspired beverages. Always looking to mix a little magic in a glass, the Dutchman too is eager to unveil his latest range of Negroni derivatives this September. "On a tropical island such as Koh Samui, it isn't hard to find inspiration and new flavours to add to your cocktails," grins Thom.
Thom's special Negroni menu will be available all day at the poolside CoCoRum, where guests can unwind in a relaxed beachfront atmosphere. In the evening, KOH Bar lights up with the tropical flavours of this special menu, complementing the stunning ocean views. The menu resonates with its seaside surroundings, boasting many bold interpretations of the Negroni such as the Caliente, with mango-infused tequila and a chili tincture adding serious spunk to the Campari and Cinzano Rosso vermouth.
A Toast to Sustainability
"Tying in with our larger theme of sustainability across the Four Seasons brand, we have chosen a list of locally-grown fruits to our infuse our spirits with," adds Thom. The Resort has partnered with the Thai agro-ecology initiative Slow Food to help improve its relationship with the local community and the environment. "Encouraging efforts such as fair-food systems and a reliance on ethically-sourced ingredients ties in with the environmental stewardship we represent as a global brand with strong local engagement," he adds.
A Taste of the Tropics
Representing the true flavour of Koh Samui, the Tropical Negroni with coconut-washed gin and From Kingston With Love featuring Jamaican rum and pineapple vinegar round off Thom's rousing Negroni renditions, while the classic original retains its place at the head of the table. "Join us at CoCoRum and KOH Bar to celebrate this classic cocktail with a few innovative twists and be a part of a meaningful cause that resonates beyond the glass," Thom smiles.
