The highly anticipated Thailand International LGBTQ+ Film & TV Festival 2024opened today at Paragon Cineplex, running until September 10, 2024. The festival, which showcases powerful stories of gender diversity from around the globe, is set to reinforce Thailand's burgeoning role as a hub for LGBTQ+ content and push the country's film industry further onto the world stage.

Under the theme "Where Film Unites Us All", the festival invites audiences to explore the diverse experiences of the LGBTQ+ community through the creative lens of both local and international filmmakers. The five-day event not only celebrates equality but also serves as a platform to promote Thailand's potential as a global film production destination.

The Thailand International LGBTQ+ Film & TV Festival aligns with the government's soft power strategy to showcase Thai culture and creativity on a global platform. Prasop Riangngoen, Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture emphasized the festival's role in elevating Thailand as a key player in global LGBTQ+ content. "This event is an important step toward establishing Thailand as a hub for LGBTQ+ content, which is gaining attention worldwide for its bold and innovative storytelling. The festival is also backed by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, with Thanasunthorn Swangsalee, Director-General of the Department of Women's Affairs and Family Development, noting, "This collaboration between public and private sectors highlights Thailand's progress in accepting and embracing gender diversity. The festival lineup features more than 28 LGBTQ+ films from 14 countries, including acclaimed titles like Before I Change My Mind, Splendid Isolation, Big Boys, Solids by the Seashore, Days, Vera and the Pleasure of Others. These films offer unique perspectives on gender diversity and highlight the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals around the world.

In addition to its diverse film selection, the festival will also screen Thai cinema classics, including "The Last Song" by National Artist M.L. Pundhevanop Dhewakul and "Love of Siam", both of which have inspired generations of audiences to embrace their true identities.

Adding star power to the event, the festival has attracted global icons from the world of cinema, including Leyna Bloom, a transgender model and actress who has made waves in the fashion and film industries, and Trevor Anderson, an acclaimed LGBTQ+ filmmaker from Canada. Other notable attendees include Urszula Antoniak, a Dutch filmmaker known for her poignant narratives, and Tsai Ming-Liang, a Taiwanese auteur celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to LGBTQ+ cinema.
