Provide e- motorcycles fleet and skills needed to become professional delivery riders
Bangkok - Banpu NEXT, a subsidiary of Banpu PCL, a leading smart energy solutions provider in Asia-Pacific, in collaboration with Lalamove, an on-demand delivery application, has officially inaugurated the "Ride for Chance, Ride for Change" CSR project - Green Riding Empower 'Chance' and 'Change' for Life Betterment. Aligned with Banpu Group's Corporate Social Responsibility approach, transitioning to a purpose-driven framework under the theme "Embracing Potential, Energizing People", this program aims to empower people with disabilities by providing sustainable job opportunities in the delivery sector while promoting the use of clean energy solutions.
Thailand has over 2.2 million people with disabilities*, many of whom face significant barriers to employment, resulting in an unemployment rate higher than that of the general population. The delivery sector, with its continuous growth, presents a promising avenue for these individuals to demonstrate their abilities and achieve social inclusion. Recognizing that including people with disabilities in the workforce not only enhances their quality of life but also contributes positively to the national economy, the "Ride for Chance, Ride for Change" initiative goes beyond providing electric motorcycles fleet. It offers comprehensive training in driving, safety, customer service, and technology. Additionally, a tailored support system addresses the specific needs of riders with disabilities, fostering confidence and helping them overcome work-related obstacles. This initiative embodies the shared commitment of Banpu NEXT and Lalamove to both social and environmental responsibility by promoting smart energy solutions that reduce air pollution and CO2 emissions while supporting the transition toward a Net Zero society.
Mr. Smittipon Srethapramote, Chief Executive Officer of Banpu NEXT, said: "Banpu NEXT is dedicated to enhancing societal well-being and improving quality of life by leveraging our expertise in smart energy solutions. We are thrilled to launch this CSR program, providing essential skills and tools for people with disabilities to become professional riders, while also advocating for clean energy adoption through electric vehicles. This initiative underscores our dedication to realizing a Net Zero society and fostering an inclusive economy where no one is left behind."
Mr. Ben Lin, Managing Director of Lalamove Thailand, said: "Lalamove is proud to partner with Banpu NEXT on this impactful initiative. Our application is designed to create opportunities, and by leveraging our expertise in the delivery sector, we enable riders with disabilities to manage deliveries and connect with customers seamlessly. We believe that by supporting disadvantaged individuals, we can make a meaningful difference in their lives and in the communities we serve."
To date, 20 individuals, including 16 with hearing impairments and 4 with mobility impairments, have participated in the program. Each received a free electric motorcycle fleet and comprehensive insurance to support their work as delivery riders as well as free rider registration fee subsidies. Following the 12-month campaign, Banpu NEXT plans to continue empowering people in future years, setting a new standard for socially responsible business practices while championing sustainable growth and environmental stewardship to create a better future for all.
Additionally, to increase opportunities for everyone to participate in this project, Lalamove users can use the promo code 'LALABANPUNEXT' to receive a 10% discount for a 10% discount (up to THB 20) on additional services like Round Trip and Cash-On-Delivery between November 11, 2024, and January 31, 2025.
