Photo Journey from India to Siam 'Connect' Photo Exhibition by Samatcha Apaisuwan is Set to Join Bangkok Design Week 2025 in February!

Immerse yourself in a captivating journey through the lens of seasoned photographer Samatcha Apaisuwan, who has accumulated decades of experience in advertising and documentary fields, at his upcoming 'Connect' photo exhibition. This artist has discovered his muse during his winter travels to India, where his spontaneous exploration allowed him to capture urban corners, morning markets, local lifestyles, and enchanting Haveli architecture. These precious moments will be brought to life at his exhibition as parts of the Bangkok Design Week 2025.

'Connect': Travel Journal about India's Open-Air Art Gallery

After impressing audiences with his previous exhibition, "Bangkok Reflection: A City in Focus," at Bangkok Design Week 2024, Samatcha now returns with his signature photo-based storytelling. This year, he shares the allure of Jaipur where his strolls led to the discovery of beautiful corners and charming local ways of life. Shown in his photographs are the Indian city's morning markets, railway stations, and unforgettable moments of friendship forged during the artist's journey.

Traveling a bit further from Jaipur, Samatcha found and fell in love with Nawalgarh and Mandawa, two tranquil towns in Rajasthan's northwestern region Shekhawati. Known for their stunning and unique frescoes, these towns are celebrated as India's "Open-Air Art Gallery." Their havelis, once mansions of wealthy merchants, are adorned with colorful murals depicting religious tales, legends, folklore, and glimpses of European colonial life.

"Frankly speaking, I wasn't keen on visiting India at that time. So, I had no expectations of how my work would turn out. I let my emotions guide me, capturing what I saw and felt in the moment. I observed the vibrant colors and compositions unfolding before me. It felt like doing research with the limited time I had, experiencing diverse lifestyles in a society quite different from ours. From this perspective, I have realized that Indians' ways of thinking and life are unique. I have also sensed that Indians have a compromising nature. They are highly flexible," Samatcha reflects.

Starting his trip without any expectation, Samatcha ended up finding an inspiration to select memorable photos from his journey for 'Connect' to communicate multidimensional connections out there. Visitors to the exhibition will feel like walking into another world, full of fascinating stories that will be told through the artist's signature photographic styles. Some images freeze moments in time with crisp detail, while others blur into emotional impressions. But all photographs carry layers of meaning, inviting viewers to explore, question, and interpret freely while immersing themselves in the artist's perspective and the power of photography that unites people across diverse backgrounds.

'Connect' aims to design happiness, hope, and positivity for viewers so as to make them optimistic and believe that anything is possible. The mission of this exhibition truly aligns with the Optimism theme of Bangkok Design Week 2025.Check out the photographic works of Samatcha Apaisuwan on the 2nd floor, c43: Fashion and Inspiration Space, from 8 to 23 February 2025, between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM (closed on Mondays).
