In a revolutionary breakthrough, M Group Holdings has partnered with Ramasak Community Enterprise to develop an herbal-based solution for scale buildup in cooling systems?the first of its kind in the world. This innovative research is set to be patented as a national asset, with the potential to disrupt a global market valued at 150 billion baht.
As climate change continues to impact global ecosystems, countries around the world?including Thailand?have joined forces through international climate summits like COP to promote sustainable environmental solutions. Thailand has embraced herbal solutions as a key tool to combat climate change, particularly in reducing greenhouse gases, restoring ecosystems, and minimizing reliance on hazardous chemicals.
Herbs: A Natural Solution to Industrial Challenges
Ms. Phinchayut Akkharakunlasan, also known as Khun Mee, Chairman of M Group Holdings, is committed to eco-friendly business practices. Under his leadership, the company has invested in research and development of herbal-based products and services. The company's subsidiary, Herb Innotech Co., Ltd., is currently conducting a pioneering study on "Elevating Herbal Innovation to Solve Scale Buildup" in collaboration with Ramasak Community Enterprise in Pho Thong, Ang Thong Province.
"This is not only Thailand's first discovery but possibly the first in the world. We are now in the process of securing a patent to make this a national treasure," said Pinyachayut.
From Local Wisdom to Global InnovationLt.Col.Chanest Butthep, an expert in herbal extraction at Herb Innotech, explained that his collaboration with Mrs. Sangad Prommes, Ramasak Community Enterprise President, stemmed from a mutual recognition of the untapped potential of Thai herbs.
"The idea originated from traditional Thai herbal knowledge. We explored various herbs that could effectively remove scale buildup in both industrial and household cooling systems. This led to the development of a natural yet highly efficient industrial cleaning product," he said.
With over 20 years of expertise in bio-fermentation, Lt. Col. Chanet discovered that locally sourced herbs used in traditional cleaning products?such as soap, shampoo, and detergents?could be refined and repurposed for large-scale industrial applications.
"This is a 100% natural product that effectively prevents and removes scale deposits while forming a hydrophobic protective film on metal surfaces, reducing corrosion, softening water, eliminating bacteria and algae, and preventing biofilm formation," he explained.
World's First Herbal Scale Prevention Tablet
One of the most exciting breakthroughs is the world's first herbal scale prevention tablet, an innovation that outperforms traditional chemical solutions. By utilizing natural alkaline water, pineapple, papaya, kaffir lime, and lemon, the team has successfully developed both liquid and tablet formulations for industrial use.
"Our patented herbal tablet is a game-changer. Not only does it dissolve stubborn scale deposits, but it also enhances surface protection against corrosion and biofilm formation," said Lt. Col. Chanet.
Scaling Up to the Global Market
Ms. Ms.Preeyawan Khamyoo, Executive of MGREEN ENVIRONMENT, a subsidiary of M Group Holdings, highlighted the significant environmental and economic advantages of replacing industrial-scale cleaning chemicals with natural herbal alternatives.
"Traditional industrial descaling relies on harsh chemicals, which pose risks to both users and the environment. Furthermore, chemical wastewater requires extensive treatment. By switching to natural herbal products, businesses can cut costs, reduce pollution, and enhance sustainability," she noted.
The herbal scale prevention product, branded as Aqua Best, has already garnered strong interest from clients in South Korea and the Philippines, with increasing orders expected.
"The global market for industrial descaling chemicals is valued at 150 billion baht and is growing at an annual rate of 6%. This presents a tremendous opportunity for Thai herbal solutions to replace conventional chemicals, align with global sustainability goals, and combat climate change," Ms.Preeyawan said.
Beyond descaling, M Group Holdings is also developing other herbal-based solutions, including: Fat buildup prevention products, Oil stain removal solutions for wastewater management, Natural odor neutralizers.
Empowering Local Communities & Elevating Thai Herbs
For Mrs. Sangad Prommes, the success of this project has been a source of immense pride.
"I never imagined that Thai herbs, long used in household cleaning, could be elevated to an industrial level. This achievement is a result of extensive research, countless trials, and the collective wisdom of our community," she said.
However Mrs. Sangad said beyond its environmental impact, this project has also created job opportunities for over 200 members of the local community, providing them with a stable income and economic empowerment.
"This is a proud moment for us. We have transformed local wisdom into a global innovation, demonstrating the true potential of Thai herbs," she said.
Paving the Way for Thailand as a Global Leader in Herbal Innovation
This groundbreaking discovery positions Thailand as a leader in herbal-based industrial solutions. By patenting this innovation, M Group Holdings aims to secure Thailand's place on the global stage as a pioneer in environmentally sustainable industrial cleaning solutions.
"Thai herbs are not just an alternative?they are the future of sustainable industry."
This marks a significant milestone in Thailand's journey toward sustainable development, global market expansion, and environmental leadership, reinforcing the country's role as an innovator in herbal-based solutions for industrial and environmental challenges.
