The Board of Airline Representatives Business Association

General News Monday March 6, 2006 13:57 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--Mar 6--Thai Airways
For over 30 years the Board of Airline Representatives in Thailand was an informal grouping of airlines working together to further the development of the airline industry in Thailand. As the complexity of the issues facing the industry increased, it was seen that a more formal approach was needed, and in September 2004 the Board of Airline Representatives was registered under the Trade Association and Trade Chambers Registration Section of the Business Registration Offices as the Board of Airline Representatives Business Association (BAR). This means that the BAR is fully empowered to represent the interests of its member airlines in all discussions and negotiations with the Government and private sectors, and is the only body legally registered in Thailand to represent the industry here.
The mission of the Board of Airline Representatives Business Association (BAR) is to provide a unified voice for airlines in the promotion of the necessary commercial, legislative, administrative, social and environmental framework to facilitate the further development of a viable, efficient and safe aviation industry in Thailand. To promote this mission the BAR provides a forum for member airlines to deal with common interests and issues and represents the interests of member airlines to government, official organizations and other parties interested in the aviation industry in Thailand. This includes maintaining close liaison on a regular basis with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the IATA Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP), The Air Cargo Business Association (ACBA) and other industry bodies.
Membership of the BAR comprises the general manager or equivalent of member airlines, since these are the officers entrusted by their airlines with the financial and policy responsibility for their airline’s operations in Thailand.
Under the BAR umbrella, the Airline Operators Committee (AOC) works to facilitate the day to day operations of airlines currently operating into Bangkok International Airport, and membership comprises the Airport Managers of member airlines, virtually all of whom report directly to their airline’s general manager in Thailand.
The Association currently has 56 members (airlines operating into Thailand) that form the General Assembly and 4 associate members (airlines not operating into Thailand). The Association is managed by an Executive Committee of eight appointed members, representing the geographical mix of member airlines, and currently comprises Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, Cathay Pacific Airways, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines, Qantas/British Airways, Northwest Airlines and Emirates, with Swiss International Airlines currently appointed as President. Honorary Chairmanship is held by the national carrier, and the registered address of the Board of Airlines Representatives Business Association is the Head Office of Thai Airways
