Business leaders encouraged to become involved
The Thai Children’s Trust formally launches in Bangkok on Thursday 5 February 2009 with a reception at the British Embassy, hosted by Ambassador Quinton Quayle.
Formerly the Pattaya Orphanage Trust, the charity has changed its name to better reflect its programme of work which extends beyond the resort town of Pattaya and now operates throughout the whole of Thailand.
Representatives of the Thai Children’s Trust from both the United Kingdom and Thailand will join supporters and colleagues from the UK/Thai business community.
The charity is keen to tell more people about its wider work and how business leaders might become involved. They will be invited to see how their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes could include some rewarding new initiatives.
“We are delighted to have the support of the British Embassy in our extended role”, says Andrew Scadding, Chief Executive of Thai Children Trust UK, “and we are most grateful to them for hosting this special occasion.
“We should also like to express our appreciation of the good relationship that has always existed between the two countries in allowing the charity to carry out its work.
“We would emphasise that the change of name makes no difference to the heart and soul of the charity. We remain committed to the welfare of children in Thailand — and we hope that this event will encourage more people to support us.
“In the UK we have some wonderful sponsors and friends who help us send some ?700,000 a year to disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in Thailand.
“Many here will know that we were founded by the remarkable Irish American priest from Chicago, Father Ray Brennan, who did so much for young people in Pattaya. We will not forget his outstanding work and our support for his projects will, of course, continue.”
