General Situation at 04:00 AM local Time At 04.00 a.m. today (7 January), tropical storm “SONAMU” in the lower South China Sea, or at latitude 6.8 degree North and longitude 108.5 degree East with maximum sustained wind about 83 km/hr, was moving west-southwest with speed about 10 km/hr.

The storm will become weak and move to Malaysian coast during 7-8 January. More rain is expected with heavy somewhere of the South from Nakhon Si Thammarat downward during 7-9 January.

The strong high pressure still covers upper Thailand and the South China Sea causing cool

to cold weather in the area. The minimum temperature below 16 C occurs much of the Northeast.

The moderate northeast monsoon prevails over the Gulf of Thailand. Waves about 2 meters high remain in the lower Gulf from Nakhon Si Thammarat downward. People along the coast should beware of high wave inshore. All ships should proceed with caution.

Southern Part (East Coast) Widely scattered thundershowers

mostly in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

Upper Gulf from Surat Thani upward: Northeasterly winds 15-35 km/hr.

Wave height 1-2 meters.

Lower Gulf from Nakhon Si Thammarat downward: Northeasterly winds 20-40 km/hr.

Wave height about 2 meters.

Southern Part (West Coast) Isolated thundershowers mostly in Ranong, Phuket and Krabi.

Minimum temperature 23-24 C. Maximum temperature 32-34 C.

Northeasterly winds 15-35 km/hr.

Wave height about 1 meter and 1-2 meters off-shore.

Metropolitan Cool with mist in the morning.
