At 1.00 a.m. today (8 January), the tropical storm “SONAMU” in the lower South China Sea has downgraded to the tropical depression and at 4.00 a.m. today (8 January), was centered at latitude 6.1 degree North and longitude 107.9 degree East with maximum sustained wind about 55 km/hr, was moving south-southwest slowly.
This storm will dissipate over the lower South China Sea. Widely scattered to scattered rain is expected of the South from Songkhla downward during 1-2 days.
The nearly active high pressure area remains cover upper Thailand and the South China Sea causing morning cool and light fog are likely the areas. The moderate northeast monsoon prevails over the Gulf of Thailand. Waves about 2 meters high remain in the lower Gulf from Songkhla downward. All ships in the areas should proceed with caution during this period.
