General Situation at 04:00 AM local Time
At 4.00 a.m. on 16 September, Typhoon Kalmaegi over the upper South China Sea, centered 600 km east of Hainan, China, or latitude 19.5 degree North, longitude 112.1 degree East, with sustained winds of 130 km/hr, is moving west northwest with speed of 30 km/hr. It is heading to Hainan and make landfall over upper Vietnam by 17 September. More rain is expected, as well as especially heavy to very heavy rain much of the North, the Northeast, the East and the South (west coast) of Thailand during 16-18 September.
The rather strong southwest monsoon remains across the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand with scattered to fairly widespread rain. Especially, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in the East and the South (west coast). The wind and waves in the Andaman Sea are likely 2-3 meters high. All ships should proceed with caution, and small boats keep ashore during 16-18 September.
