General Situation At 04 a.m. LST today (24 July), the tropical storm “SONCA” over the upper South China Sea was centered about 500 kilometers east of Hanoi, Vietnam or latitude 17.2 degree North, longitude 111.3 degree East. It is moving almost stationary with maximum sustained wind about 35 knots or 65 km/hr. It is expected make landfall over upper Vietnam on 25 July and move to the Northeast and the North. Abundant rain with isolated heavy to very heavy rain over country.

The strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea and Thailand. The strong winds in the upper Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand lead to waves 2-3 meters high. People should beware of severe conditions. All ships should proceed with caution and small boat in the Andaman Sea keep of shore.

Northeastern Part Fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain in Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

Central Part Scattered thundershowers mostly in Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri,

Southern Part (East Coast) Cloudy with isolated thundershowers mostly Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon. Minimum temperature 23-25 C. Maximum temperature 30-34 C.

Southwesterly winds 15-35 km/hr.

Wave height 1-2 meters and about 2 meters offshore.

Southern Part (West Coast) Cloudy with scattered thundershowers mostly in Ranong, Phangnga and Phuket.

Phuket northwards: Southwesterly winds 20-40 km/hr.

Wave height 2-3 meters and above 3 meters in thundershower areas.
