General Situation The weak southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea and the South with less rain likely over the country but more rain in the upper Central and the East than any other regions. The wind waves in the Andaman Sea are likely 1-2 meters high.

At 4.00 a.m. LST on 23 August, typhoon “HATO” due 180km southeast of Hong Kong, China, or latitude 21.2 North, longitude 115.4 East. With maximum sustained wind about 70 knots or 130 km/hr, the storm is moving west-northwest with speed of 14 knots or 25 km/hr to make landfall over southern Guangdong, China today on 23 August. It will then be downgraded as tropical depression and low-pressure system, respectively, over upper Vietnam. Typhoon HATO has not affect directly Thailand during 1-2 days.

Southern Part (East Coast)

Cloudy with isolated thundershowers mostly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Surat Thani.

Wave height about 1 meter and 1-2 meters in thundershower areas.

Southern Part (West Coast)Cloudy with isolated thundershowers mostly in Ranong, Phangnga and Phuket.

Wave height 1-2 meters and above 2 meters in thundershower areas.

Metropolitan Scattered thundershowers mostly in afternoon to evening.
