During 29-30 Dec, the moderate high pressure prevails over upper Thailand and causes morning cool and fog remain over upper country.
During 31 Dec 2017 – 2 Jan 2018, another rather strong high pressure area from China will extend to upper Thailand and cause cool to cold with a drop in temperature by 2-4?C. The strong northeast monsoon prevails over the Gulf and the South of Thailand and causes more rain and isolated heavy rains in the South. The strong wind waves 2-4 meters high are likely in the Gulf.
After that, during 3 – 4 Jan 2018, the high pressure is weakening while the westerly trough will move pass the upper portion of the North. Rise in temperature is expected over upper country while isolated rain is likely in the upper North. The northeast monsoon will weaken. Less rain and weaker wind and waves are likely over the South and the Gulf.
Warning
People in the upper country should beware of cold weather. People in the South should beware of inshore surge and heavy rain. During 31 Dec 2017 – 2 Jan 2018, all ships in the Gulf of Thailand should proceed with caution, and small boats should keep ashore.
