Weekly Forecast for 10 - 16 August 2023
During 10 - 11 and 15 - 16 Aug, the southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf while the low-pressure cell covers upper Vietnam. Thundershowers are likely in the country mostly in the western part of Thailand and isolated heavy rains are possible in the Northeast, the East and the South (west coast) regions. During 12 - 14 Aug, the moderate monsoon trough will lie across upper Myanmar and upper Laos into the low-pressure cell over upper Vietnam. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf will be strengthen. More rains are likely in the country and isolated heavy rains are likely in the Central and the South (east coast) regions while isolated very heavy rains are possible in the North, the Northeast, the East and the South (west coast) regions. During 11 - 12, the wind and waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf are 1 - 2 meters high and above 2 meters high in thundershowers area. During 12 - 14, the wind and waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf will be strengthen. The waves in the upper Andaman Sea are 2 - 3 meters high and above 3 meters high in thundershowers area, about 2 meters high in the upper Gulf. In the lower Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf, the waves has 1 - 2 meters high and above 2 meters high in thundershowers area. During 15 - 16, the moderate wind and waves in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf are about 2 meters high, 1 - 2 meters high in the lower Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf, while above 2 meters high in thundershowers area.
Caution
During 12 - 16 Aug, People in Thailand should beaware of heavy to very heavy rains and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and surface runoff, especially along foothills near waterways and lowlands. All ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers area throughout the period ,small boats in the upper Andaman Sea keep ashore during 12 - 14 Aug.
