Weather Outlook During 15 - 21 August 2023
During 16 - 18 Aug, the rather strong southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf will weaken. Meanwhile, the weak monsoon trough will remain lie across upper Myanmar and upper Laos into the low-pressure cell over the coast of upper Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. Thundershowers remain in the country mostly in the western part of Thailand and isolated heavy rains are likely in the North, the Northeast, the Central, the East and the South (east coast) while isolated very heavy rains are possible in the South (west coast). The weakening wind and waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf are about 2 meters high and above 2 meters high in thundershowers while the waves has 1 - 2 meters high in the lower Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf and above 2 meters high in thundershowers. During 19 - 21 Aug, the moderate monsoon trough will move down to lie across the North, the Central, the upper East and the Northeast of Thailand. Meanwhile, the moderate southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf. More rains are likely in the upper country and isolated heavy rains are likely in the North, the Northeast, the Central including Bangkok and its vicinity and the South while isolated very heavy rains are possible in the East. The moderate wind and waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf are 1 - 2 meters high and above 2 meters high in thundershowers.
Caution
People in Thailand should beware of heavy to very heavy rains and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and overflows, especially along foothills near waterways and lowlands throughout the period. All ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers throughout the period ,small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf keep ashore for another day.
