Weather Outlook During 18 - 24 August 2023
During 18 - 19 Aug, the moderest southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf. Meanwhile, the low-pressure cell over the coast of upper Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. Isolated thundershowers remain in the country and isolated heavy rains are likely in the East and the South (west coast). During 20 - 22 Aug, the moderate monsoon trough will move down to lie across the North, the Central, the upper East and the Northeast of Thailand. Meanwhile, the moderate southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf. More rains are likely in the upper country and isolated heavy rains are likely in the North, the Northeast, the Central including Bangkok and its vicinity and the South while isolated very heavy rains are possible in the East. During 23 - 24 Aug, the monsoon trough will move up to lie across Myanmar, upper Laos and upper Vietnam. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf. Isolated heavy rains remains in the upper North, the upper Northeast, the East and the South (west coast). The wind and waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf are likely 1 - 2 meters high and above 2 meters high in thundershowers throughout the period.
Caution
People in Thailand should beware of heavy to very heavy rains and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and overflows, especially along foothills near waterways and lowlands throughout the period. All ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers throughout the period.
