Weather Outlook During 21 - 27 August 2023
During 22 - 23 Aug, the moderate monsoon trough will move up to lie across upper Myanmar and upper Laos into the low-pressure cell over the Gulf of Tonkin. Meanwhile, the moderate southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf. Less rains are likely in the upper country and isolated heavy rains are likely in the North, the Northeast and the East. During 24 - 27 Aug, the monsoon trough will lie across the upper Myanmar and upper Laos into the low-pressure cell over the coast of upper Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea and the South will strengthen during 25 - 27 Aug. Isolated heavy rains are likely in the North, the Northeast, the Central, the East and the South (west coast). During 21 - 24 Aug, the moderate wind and waves in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf are likely 1 - 2 meters high, above 2 meters high in thundershowers and about 1 meters high in the lower Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf, 1 - 2 meters high in thundershowers. During 25 - 27 Aug, the strengthening wind forces the waves in the upper Andaman Sea up to about 2 meters high, above 2 meters high in thundershowers and 1 - 2 meters high in the lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf, above 2 meters high in thundershowers.
Caution
During 21 and 24 - 26 Aug, people in upper Thailand should beware of heavy rains and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and overflows, especially along foothills near waterways and lowlands. All ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers throughout the period.
