Weather Outlook During 20 ? 26 May 2024

Weather Forecast: During 20 ? 22 May, the southwesterly wind prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf is strengthening. At the same time, the confluence of southwesterly and southeasterly winds prevail over the North and the Northeast regions while the low-pressure cell covers southern China and the Gulf of Tonkin. More rains and isolated heavy rains are likely in the country while isolated very heavy rains are possible in the North, the Northeast, the Central and the South(west coast). The strengthening wind and waves in the upper Andaman Sea are about 2 meters high, 1-2 meters high in the lower Andaman Sea and above 2 meters high in thundershowers. In the Gulf, the waves have about 1 meter high, 1-2 meters high offshore and above 2 meters high in thundershowers. During 23 ? 26 May, the rather strong southwesterly wind prevails over the upper Andaman Sea and western part of Thailand with isolated heavy to very heavy rains. The rather strong winds and waves are likely 2 - 3 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea and above 3 meters high in thundershowers while about 2 meters high in the lower Andaman Sea and above 2 meters in thundershowers. In the Gulf, the waves have about 1 meter high, 1-2 meters high offshore and above 2 meters high in thundershowers. In addition, the low-pressure cell over the lower bay of Bengal will intensify to an active low-pressure cell and the tropical depression respectively during 22-24 May. It is expected to make landfall over northeastern of India during 25-26 May. The storm is no direct effect on Thailand?s weather.

Caution

People should beware of heavy to very heavy rains and accumulations that may cause flash floods and overflows, especially along foothills near waterways and lowlands. All ships in the Gulf and the Andaman Sea should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers throughout the period. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea keep ashore during 23 ? 26 May.
