"Tropical Storm KETSANA"

At 4.00 a.m. today, Typhoon “KETSANA” over the South China Sea was centered about 220 km east of Danang, Vietnam or Lat 16.0 oN, Long 109.8 oE with sustained winds of 140 km/hr. It is moving west at a speed of 15 km/hr to make landfall over the coast of Vietnam today. KETSANA is expected to move across neighboring Laos ahead to Mukdahan Province, Thailand by 30 September 2009. More rain is likely with heavy to very heavy falls first in much of northeastern and eastern Thailand and then the others. People in the risky areas along the foothills near waterways and in Lowlands should beware of flooding during this period. The condition alerts for provinces of Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, Burirum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong and Phangnga.
The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is intensifying. Wind and wave is likely above 2 meters in the areas. All ships should proceed with caution.
