ปธน. เต็ง เส่ง ให้คำมั่นปลดปล่อยนักโทษการเมืองทั้งหมดในพม่าสิ้นปีนี้

ปธน. เส่ง กล่าวที่ Chatham House ในกรุงลอนดอนว่า “ภายในสิ้นปีนี้ จะไม่มีนักโทษทางความคิดเหลืออยู่ในพม่า"

สำหรับความขัดแย้งทางเชื้อชาตินั้น ปธน. เส่ง ให้ความเห็นว่า “การสงบศึกทั่วประเทศในเวลาอีกไม่กี่สัปดาห์นั้นเป็นเรื่องที่เป็นไปได้ และจะเป็นครั้งแรกในรอบ 60 ปีที่เสียงปืนจะหยุดดัง"

ขณะนี้ ปธน. เส่งเดินทางเยือนอังกฤษ และฝรั่งเศสซึ่งมีกำหนดเวลา 4 วัน สำนักข่าวเกียวโดรายงาน

Myanmar leader pledges to release all political prisoners by year-end+

LONDON, July 15 Kyodo - Myanmar President Thein Sein on Monday indicated that all political prisoners will be released by the end of this year and a nationwide cease-fire between government forces and armed ethnic minority forces will be reached possibly over the coming weeks.

Speaking at the Chatham House think tank in London, Thein Sein was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying, "By the end of the year there will be no prisoners of conscience in Myanmar."

On the country's ethnic conflict, the president said, "It's possible that there will be a nationwide ceasefire in the coming weeks," adding that "It would be the first time in 60 years that the guns fall silent," according to Reuters.

Thein Sein is currently on a four-day trip to Britain and France. ==Kyodo
