ตามที่ได้เกิดเหตุการณ์เหมืองระเบิดที่ Pike River ใกล้บริเวณ Greymouth เกาะใต้ของนิวซีแลนด์ จนทำให้คนงานเหมืองถ่านหิน ๒๙ คนติดอยู่ในเหมืองดังกล่าวตั้งแต่วันที่ ๑๙ พฤศจิกายน ๒๕๕๓ และเกิดการระเบิดซ้ำเมื่อวันที่ ๒๔ พฤศจิกายน ๒๕๕๓ นั้น
ในการนี้ นายอภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ นายกรัฐมนตรี นายกษิต ภิรมย์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ และนายธีรกุล นิยม ปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจต่อกรณีดังกล่าวไปยังนายกรัฐมนตรีนิวซีแลนด์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ และปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ ตามลำดับ ดังนี้
