ตามที่ได้เกิดเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวประมาณ ๘.๙ ริกเตอร์ ในประเทศญี่ปุ่น เมื่อวันที่ ๑๑ มีนาคม ๒๕๕๔ เวลาประมาณ ๑๒.๔๖ น. (เวลาไทย) นั้น
ในการนี้ นายอภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจในโอกาสดังกล่าวไปยังนาย Naoto Kan นายกรัฐมนตรีญี่ปุ่น นอกจากนี้ นายกษิต ภิรมย์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจในโอกาสเดียวกันไปยังนาย Takeaki Matsumoto รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศญี่ปุ่น ดังนี้

On behalf of the Government and people of the Kingdom of Thailand, I have the honour to offer my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to those who have been affected in the aftermath of the destruction wrought by the earthquakes and subsequent tsunami that struck Japan on Friday 11 March 2011.
I am confident that under your strong leadership, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts will be carried out effectively. Thailand stands ready to assist Japan in mitigating the effects of these natural disasters.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the massive destruction wrought by the earthquakes and subsequent tsunami that struck the northeastern coast of Japan on Friday 11 March 2011.
In this regard, I have the honour to offer my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to those who have lost property and loved ones in the aftermath of these natural disasters. Rest assured that Thailand stands ready to offer our assistance to our Japanese friends in this time of need.
