ตามที่ได้เกิดเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวในพม่าเมื่อวันที่ ๒๔ มีนาคม ๒๕๕๔ เวลา ๒๐.๒๙ น. (เวลาท้องถิ่น) หรือเวลา ๒๐.๕๕ น. (เวลาประเทศไทย) โดยมีจุดศูนย์กลางที่เมืองลอย มเว รัฐฉาน ทางตอนเหนือของพม่า และส่งผลให้เกิดผู้เสียชีวิตและบาดเจ็บ รวมถึงสร้างความเสียหายจำนวนมาก นั้น
กระทรวงการต่างประเทศขอเรียน ดังนี้
๑. นายอภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ นายกรัฐมนตรี และนายกษิต ภิรมย์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจ ถึงนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศของพม่า ตามลำดับ โดยมีข้อความสาร ดังนี้

I wish to express my deepest sympathy to you and, through you, to the people of Myanmar who have been affected by the earthquake in eastern Myanmar on 24 March 2011.
I am certain that, under your guidance and able leadership, the courage and resilience of Myanmar people will take them through this difficult time.
Thailand, I can assure you, stands ready to render necessary support to Myanmar in this task.

March 2011, resulting in casualties and property damages.

๒. นอกจากนี้ รัฐบาลไทยได้ประกาศให้ความช่วยเหลือเบื้องต้นแก่พม่าเนื่องในเหตุการณ์ดังกล่าวจำนวน ๓ ล้านบาท โดยเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงย่างกุ้ง อยู่ระหว่างการสอบถามฝ่ายพม่าเกี่ยวกับความช่วยเหลือที่ฝ่ายพม่าต้องการเพิ่มเติม
