ในโอกาสที่นาย John Baird ได้รับการแต่งตั้งให้ดำรงตำแหน่งรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศคนใหม่ของแคนาดา นายกษิต ภิรมย์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความยินดีไปยังนาย John Baird โดยมีใจความดังนี้

Excellency,

I would like to congratulate you on your appointment as Foreign Minister of Canada. In the past year, Thai-Canadian relations have become closer in key areas, ranging from trade, investment, energy, education, prevention and suppression of people smuggling, to good governance and democracy.

As this year marks the 50th anniversary of Thai-Canadian diplomatic relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been working closely with the Embassy of Canada in Thailand to organize several activities in celebration of this special occasion. In this connection, I wish to extend a cordial invitation to you to pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand to commemorate this memorable event as well as to discuss bilateral and regional issues of common interest, including the commemoration of the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Canada relations.
