ตามที่ได้เกิดเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวที่เมือง Ercis และเมือง Van ซึ่งอยู่ทางทิศตะวันออกของสาธารณรัฐตุรกี เมื่อวันที่ ๒๓ ตุลาคม ๒๕๕๔ ส่งผลให้มีผู้เสียชีวิตและผู้บาดเจ็บ รวมถึงความเสียหายเป็นจำนวนมาก นั้น
ในการนี้ นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนายกรัฐมนตรี สาธารณรัฐตุรกี และนายสุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศสาธารณรัฐตุรกี ดังนี้

I am deeply sadden by the tragic loss of lives, casualties as well as damage to properties caused by the devastating earthquake that recently hit the cities of Ercis and Van, Eastern Turkey.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Thailand, I wish to extend my sincere sympathy and condolences to Your Excellency and, through you, to the bereaved families of those who were affected by this disaster. We are grieved by the continuing rise in death toll and number of those injured and wish you every success in your rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
