ตามที่นายคิม จองอิล ผู้นำสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนเกาหลี (เกาหลีเหนือ) ได้ถึงแก่อสัญกรรมเมื่อวันที่ ๑๗ ธันวาคม ๒๕๕๔ นั้น
ในการนี้ นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนาย โช ยอง-ริม (Choe Yong-rim) นายกรัฐมนตรีสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนเกาหลี และนายสุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนายปัก อึย-จุน (Pak Ui-chun) รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนเกาหลี ดังนี้
