ตามที่เมื่อวันที่ ๑๓ มีนาคม ๒๕๕๕ เรือ “ชาริอัตปูร์ ๑” ซึ่งเป็นเรือโดยสารข้ามฟากในบังกลาเทศบรรทุกผู้โดยสารประมาณ ๒๕๐-๓๐๐ คน ได้ประสบอุบัติเหตุชนกับเรือบรรทุกน้ำมันจนอับปางลงกลางแม่น้ำเมฆนา (Meghna) ส่งผลให้มีผู้เสียชีวิตกว่า ๑๑๒ ราย และมีผู้บาดเจ็บเป็นจำนวนมาก นั้น
ในการนี้ นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี และนายสุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนาง Sheikh Hasina และนาง Dipu Moni นายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศบังกลาเทศ ตามลำดับ ดังนี้
