ตามที่นาย John Evans Atta Mills ประธานาธิบดีคนที่ ๓ ของกานา ได้ถึงแก่อสัญกรรมเมื่อวันที่๒๔ กรกฎาคม ๒๕๕๕ นั้น
ในการนี้ นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนาย John Dramani Mahama ประธานาธิบดีคนใหม่ของกานา และนายสุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนาย Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ การรวมตัวของภูมิภาค และวิสัยทัศน์และกรอบยุทธศาสตร์ของการพัฒนาแอฟริกา (Minister for Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and New Partnership for Africa’s Development) ของกานา ดังนี้

I have learnt with profound sadness of the passing away of His Excellency Mr. John Evans Atta Mills, President of the Republic of Ghana, on 24 July 2012.
Among laudable achievements, His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills will always be remembered for his leadership and outstanding contribution towards peace, democracy and prosperity of the Republic of Ghana.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Kingdom of Thailand, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences, through you, to the people of the Republic of Ghana and to the late President Mills’s bereaved family for this irreparable loss.
