ด้วยรัฐเอกราชปาปัวนิวกินีได้มีการจัดตั้งรัฐบาลชุดใหม่ ซึ่งนาย Peter O’Neill ได้รับแต่งตั้งให้ดำรงตำแหน่งนายกรัฐมนตรีของปาปัวนิวกินี และ นาย Rimbink Pato ได้รับการแต่งตั้งให้เป็นรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ
ในการนี้ นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี และ นายสุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความยินดีถึงนายกรัฐมนตรี และรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศปาปัวนิวกินี ดังนี้
