ตามที่ได้มีเหตุการณ์ความรุนแรงที่โรงเรียนประถม Sandy Hook ที่รัฐคอนเนคติกัต สหรัฐอเมริกา เมื่อวันที่ ๑๔ ธันวาคม ๒๕๕๕ และมีผู้เสียชีวิตจากเหตุการณ์ดังกล่าว ๒๘ ราย โดยเป็นเด็กอายุ ๖ — ๗ ปีจำนวน ๒๐ ราย นั้น นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนายบารัค โอบามา ประธานาธิบดีสหรัฐอเมริกา ดังนี้

“Dear Mr. President,
The people of Thailand were deeply shocked to learn of the tragic incident which took place last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, resulting in the loss of lives of many young children. In this time of great sorrow, our hearts and minds are with everyone in the United States who has been affected by this senseless tragedy. We join the world in grieving with the families who lost their loved ones.
Amid the sadness and pain, the stories of the incredible courage of the teachers of Sandy Hook Elementary School in protecting their students has echoed worldwide and serve as an inspiration for us all. Their heroic deeds in giving their lives so that others may live on shall long be remembered.
