ข้อความแสดงความยินดีของนายกรัฐมนตรีในโอกาสสมเด็จพระสันตะปาปาฟรานซิสในโอกาสที่ได้รับ การแต่งตั้งเป็นพระสันตะปาปาองค์ใหม่

ด้วยเมื่อวันที่ ๑๓ มีนาคม ๒๕๕๖ พระคาร์ดินัล ฮอร์เก้ มาริโอ เบอร์โกกลิโอ จากอาร์เจนตินา ได้รับการแต่งตั้งเป็นสมเด็จพระสันตะปาปา องค์ที่ ๒๖๖ แห่งพระศาสนจักรโรมันคาทอลิก ในการนี้ นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีสารแสดงความยินดีถึงพระสันตะปาปาฟรานซิส ดังนี้

“Your Holiness,

I have the honour and pleasure to offer, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand, my sincere congratulations and warmest wishes to Your Holiness on the occasion of your elevation as the Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church and Sovereign of the State of Vatican City.

Although Roman Catholics makes up a small minority of the Thai population, their work in the fields of educations, healthcare and other social services have contributed greatly to the development of the Thai nation throughout the last five centuries. I am confident that, under your leadership, these good works will continue while the faith of Roman Catholics in Thailand and elsewhere will be renewed. I also wish Your Holiness success in continuing your predecessors’ work in encouraging greater understanding between religions and promoting global peace.
