ด้วยวันที่ ๒๗ เมษายน ๒๕๕๖ เป็นวันเสรีภาพ (Freedom Day) และวันชาติของสาธารณรัฐแอฟริกาใต้ นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี จึงได้มีสารแสดงความยินดีถึงประธานาธิบดีแอฟริกาใต้ และนายสุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล รองนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความยินดีถึงรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศแอฟริกาใต้ ดังนี้

“Excellency,
On the occasion of the Freedom Day of the Republic of South Africa, I have the honour to extend, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the Thai people, my warmest congratulations and best wishes for the prosperity of the Republic of South Africa and her people.
Our two countries have long enjoyed amicable ties and mutual understanding. I, therefore, wish to reiterate my earnest desire to working with Your Excellency to further consolidate our relations for the benefit of our two countries and peoples.
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of South Africa. In commemoration of this auspicious occasion, I look forward to ushering in a new era of bilateral cooperation for a more dynamic partnership between our two countries in the decades to come.

On 9 December 1993, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of South Africa established diplomatic relations. Over the past 20 years, it is well noted that our two countries have always reciprocated mutual understanding and support covering wide — ranging areas of interest. I am confident that our Governments will continue with utmost effort to further strengthen and enhance our close bonds of friendship and collaboration for the mutual benefit of our two countries and people as well as our future generations.
