ตามที่มีแถลงการณ์สำนักพระราชวังเนเธอร์แลนด์ว่า เมื่อช่วงเช้าของวันที่ ๑๒ สิงหาคม ๒๕๕๖ ตามเวลาท้องถิ่น เจ้าชายฟริโซแห่งเนเธอร์แลนด์สิ้นพระชนม์จากอาการแทรกซ้อนอันเป็นผลมาจาการขาดออกซิเจนระหว่างทรงอุบัติเหตุขณะทรงสกี ที่ประเทศออสเตรีย เมื่อเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ ๒๕๕๕ ในการนี้ นางสาวยิ่งลักษณ์ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนาย Mark Rutte นายกรัฐมนตรีเนเธอร์แลนด์ และนายสุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล รองนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนาย Frans Timmermans รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศเนเธอร์แลนด์ ดังนี้

I have learnt with deep sorrow of the passing away of His Royal Highness Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau. On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Your Excellency as well as to the Government and the people of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for this irreplaceable loss.
