ตามที่ได้มีรายงานข่าวเครื่องบินสายการบินแอร์เอเชีย อินโดนีเซีย เที่ยวบินที่ QZ 8501 ซึ่งเดินทางจากท่าอากาศยานนานาชาติจูอันดา เมืองสุราบายา ประเทศอินโดนีเซียไปยังประเทศสิงคโปร์ ในช่วงเช้าวันที่ ๒๘ ธ.ค. ๒๕๕๗ ได้ขาดการติดต่อกับหอบังคับการบิน และสูญหายไป พลเอกประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา นายกรัฐมนตรี และพลเอกธนะศักดิ์ ปฏิมาประกร รองนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจ ดังนี้
๑. ข้อความสารแสดงความเสียใจจากนายกรัฐมนตรีถึงประธานาธิบดีอินโดนีเซีย
I am very saddened to learn that the AirAsia Indonesia aircraft, with 162 passengers and crew, travelling from Surabaya to Singapore has gone missing on 28 December 2014. At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers go out to all passengers and crew members of the AirAsia flight QZ 8501 and their families.
The Royal Thai Government stands ready to assist the Government of Indonesia in any way possible. I have instructed all relevant ministries to be on stand by to assist promptly to the ongoing search and rescue operations.

It is with shock and great concern that I have learnt that AirAsia Flight QZ8501 traveling from Surabaya went missing in the morning of 28 December 2014.
In this regard, I wish to convey to Your Excellency and, through you, to the people of Indonesia and families of passengers and crew members that our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. Upon instruction of His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, we stand ready to render full support to Indonesia in all possible means.
