Dear Madam Secretary,
On behalf of the Government and the people of Thailand, I wish to extend to you my warmest congratulations upon your confirmation as the Secretary of State of the United States of America.
I am confident that, with your extensive experience and broad interests in international affairs, the United States will play a constructive and fruitful role in shaping the future course of the world. As a former Thai Ambassador to the United States, I look forward to working closely with you to strengthen our countries’ 176 years of friendship. As always, Thailand is committed to an alliance relationship with the U.S. and will be ready to advance our partnership in bilateral and multilateral context in areas of our mutual interest, be it counterterrorism, combating HIV/AIDS, climate change, food security, energy security, trafficking in persons, disaster preparedness, and etc.
Thailand, as the current Chair of ASEAN, welcomes a more vigorous role of the United States in the Southeast Asian region toward a deeper engagement with the ASEAN Community. As you may be aware, ASEAN is in the process of establishing ASEAN Human Rights Body (AHRB) which is expected to play a catalytic role for the promotion and protection of human rights in ASEAN. Through the AHRB, we can work more efficiently with the United States and international community in raising awareness and promoting human rights education within the region.
I also look forward to welcoming you at the AMM-PMC to be held in Thailand in July this year and to meet with you at other venues in the near future. I wish you all the best and success for the challenging tasks ahead.
