เมื่อวันที่ 19 พฤษภาคม 2553 นายอภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ นายกรัฐมนตรี และนายกษิต ภิรมย์ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจไปยังนาย Silvio Berlusconi นายกรัฐมนตรีอิตาลี และนาย Franco Frattini รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศอิตาลี ตามลำดับ กรณีนาย Fabio Polenghi ช่างภาพชาวอิตาลี ถูกยิงเสียชีวิตระหว่างการรายงานข่าวเหตุการณ์ความไม่สงบ ดังนี้

I have learnt with profound regret and sadness of the death of Mr. Fabio Polenghi, an Italian photographer, on 19 May 2010 during violent clashes between armed anti-government protesters and Thai troops in Bangkok. On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand, allow me to extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to Mr. Polenghi’s family and the people of Italy for this loss.
Rest assured, Your Excellency, that an investigation into the causes and circumstances surrounding Mr. Polenghi’s unfortunate death is underway. I also wish to reassure Your Excellency that the safety of foreign nationals remains our highest concern. My Government is determined to restore peace and the rule of law as soon as possible. It is my earnest hope that there will be a prompt return to political normalcy in Thailand

I know how difficult this must be for Mr. Polenghi’s family, friends and colleagues. Allow me to extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to them all for this loss.
The Royal Thai Government is fully committed to carrying out an investigation into the causes and circumstances surrounding Mr. Fabio Polenghi’s unfortunate death. Rest assured that the safety of foreign nationals remains our highest priority while peace and the rule of law are being restored in Thailand
