The film focuses on the relationship between a father and his two sons. The elder son went to college and got a good job, while the younger son, Tetsuo, stopped his student at high school and began low-paying manual labor. Tetsuo falls in love with Seiko, who is deaf and mute. On introducing her to his father and elder brother, he announces that they plan to marry. Tetsuo worries that his father will be upset, but instead he accepts and supports his proposal.

Three year after Hiroshima was destroyed by the atomic bomb. The story revolves around the life of Mitsue, a young woman and a survivor of the bombing and her relationship with her father, Takezo. It focuses on the issue of hibakusha, the survivors of the first atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. These survivors not only had to deal with rebuilding their lives but also healing their hearts and their guilt for having survived their loved one. But with each passing year, their stories are being forgotten. With The Face of Jizo, their lives can be remembered.
อยู่กับพ่อสามปีหลังจากเหตุทิ้งระเบิดที่ฮิโรชิมา เรื่องเล่าถึงชีวิตของมิทซึเอะ หญิงสาวผู้รอดชีวิตจากการทิ้งระเบิด และความสัมพันธ์ของเธอกับ ทาเคโซ ผู้เป็นพ่อ ภาพยนตร์เรื่อง อยู่กับพ่อ มุ่งเน้นที่ประเด็นของ ฮิบะคุฉะ หรือผู้รอดชีวิตจากการทิ้งระเบิดปรมานูลูกแรกที่ฮิโรชิมาในวันที่ 6 สิงหาคม 1945 ผู้รอดชีวิตเหล่านี้ ไม่เพียงต้องทนทุกข์จากการต้องเริ่มต้นชีวิตใหม่ แต่ยังต้องเยียวยาหัวใจจากความรู้สึกผิดที่รอดตายทั้งๆ ที่คนที่พวกเขารักต้องตายจากไป เมื่อเวลาผ่านไปปีแล้วปีเล่า เรื่องราวเหล่านี้ก็เริ่มเลือนหายจากความทรงจำของผู้คน ด้วยภาพยนตร์เรื่อง อยู่กับพ่อ เรื่องนี้ จะช่วยให้ทุกคนระลึกถึงเรื่องนี้อีกครั้ง

Cute Wakana, 14, faces her mother and father quarreling ceaselessly with the latter always threatening to leave. Her father, Kosuke, falls in love with a younger woman and when she becomes pregnant, he leaves home and moves into a nearby apartment. Eventually Kosuke's young wife leaves him and leaves the baby behind for her mother, Harumi, to look after. Around this time Kosuke begins drinking heavily and disappears. Wakana decides to go and search for her father. Finally she finds him in a hospital where he is being treated after being run down by a car. The family comes together again, but one month later Kosuke suddenly dies. As a junior high school student Wakana has experienced so many things, now she is ready to begin a new life.
เรื่องของโอซาก้าวาคานะ เด็กสาวน่ารักวัยสิบสี่ ต้องเผชิญกับการที่พ่อแม่ทะเลาะกันมิได้หยุดซึ่งมักจบลงที่การขู่ว่าจะออกจากบ้านของพ่อ พ่อของเธอมีลูกกับหญิงสาวอายุอ่อนกว่ามาก และออกจากบ้านไปอยู่อพาร์ทเมนท์ใกล้ ๆ แต่ทั้งคู่ก็ไปด้วยกันไม่รอด หญิงสาวจากพ่อของเธอไป ทิ้งลูกให้แม่ของเธอต้องดูแลแทน ในช่วงนี้เองที่พ่อของเธอดื่มหนักและหายตัวไปจากบ้าน วาคานะออกตามหาพ่อ ในที่สุดก็พบว่าพ่อถูกรถชนนอนรักษาตัวอยู่ในโรงพยาบาล ครอบครัวกลับมาเป็นครอบครัวอีกครั้งหนึ่ง แต่แล้วในเวลาเพียงเดือนเดียวพ่อของเธอก็เสียชีวิตอย่างกะทันหัน เด็กมัธยมอย่างวาคานะต้องพานพบกับเหตุการณ์ต่าง ๆ มากมาย บัดนี้เธอพร้อมแล้วที่จะเริ่มต้นชีวิตใหม่
