ในโอกาสวาระครบรอบ 55 ปี แห่งการสถาปนาความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตระหว่างประเทศไทยและราชอาณาจักรกัมพูชา ในวันที่ 19 ธันวาคม 2548 นายกรัฐมนตรีทักษิณ ชินวัตร ได้แลกเปลี่ยนสารแสดงความยินดีกับสมเด็จฮุน เซน นายกรัฐมนตรีแห่งราชอาณาจักรกัมพูชา และ ดร. กันตธีร์ ศุภมงคล รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ก็ได้แลกเปลี่ยนสารแสดงความยินดีกับนายฮอร์ นัมฮง รองนายกรัฐมนตรี และรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศและความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศของกัมพูชาเช่นเดียวกัน

As today marks the auspicious occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Cambodia, I have the honor to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to you, Samdech, along with the people and the Royal Government of Cambodia.
For 55 years, Thailand and Cambodia have enjoyed a close relationship and good neighborliness through our diplomatic relations. However, the fabrics that weave our rich relations were not just the outcome of our five decades of diplomatic relations but our geographical proximity, traditional and cultural similarity, as well as our shared values and common aspiration to live in peace and harmony. These bonds and values will certainly pave the way towards an even stronger partnership for the future.
The wide-ranging cooperation between Thailand and Cambodia should be further enhanced and encouraged to become more pro-active and forward-looking. For our partnership to enable us to face the common challenges of this increasingly globalized world more effectively, let us instruuct our offiicials to do their utmost to accelerate the effective implementation of our cooperative programmes, such as the promotion of trade facilitation and investment flows, border security, the development of transportation network, cooperation in public health, and the promotion of people- to- people contact.
Along with our cordial bilateral relations, let us also work closely to achieve regional and international cooperation, particularly in the frameworks of ASEAN, the Ayeyawady — Chao Phraya — Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and the Greater Mekong Sub-Region. These frameworks have not only served as fora for our two countries to attain new heights of cordiality and mutual prosperity, but also contributed to our regional development and beyond.
The Royal Thai Government remains as committed as ever to strengthening further the close bonds of friendship between Thailand and Cambodia. The vibrant relationship which we have enjoyed for the past 55 years must be further built upon for the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples.

The peoples of Cambodia and Thailand have enjoyed the bonds of traditional friendship and close cooperation in many fields, since the establishment of diplomatic ties between our two countries on 19 December 1950. A sea of similarities in culture, tradition and religion between our peoples, have served as a buttress upholding the healthy relationship of our two nations, which has significantly contribute to peace, stability and sustainability in the region.
I am pleased to note that the excellent progress in our relations and cooperation, both in scope and depth between our countries, in recent years, have brought immense mutual benefits to our peoples. Cambodia also cherishes and appreciates the contribution that the Government and people of Thailand have made for the rehabilitation and development of its economy.
I have no doubt that the Commemoration of the 55th Anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relationship will add new strength to our bonds of amity and expanding collaboration in bilateral and multilateral frameworks. This has helped our two countries overcome various challenges which have emerged from time to time.
Beyond our bilateral relations, Thailand and Cambodia have demonstrated to the world our readiness and determination to work together at the regional and international levels. Our partnership in various multilateral fora, including ASEAN, ACMECS and the Greater Mekong Sub-Region is a clear indication of our common desire to do all we can to promote peace, stability and development in the region.
Amidst today’s rapidly changing international landscape, there is a growing need to accelerate our cooperation in ways that would best benefit our two countries and peoples. We must seize the opportunities presented by the world of globalization and join hands to tackle emerging challenges — be they traditional ones in the political and economic spheres or non-traditional ones such as human security and public health. Therefore, as we work to lift our partnership onto a higher plane, we should combine our strengths to ensure that our joint endeavors to better our countries and peoples are achieved.
In this regard, I wish to reassure Your Excellency of my determination to work closely with you and the Royal Government of Cambodia to promote the peace and prosperity of our two countries as well as of our region and beyond.
